Daughter's Shopping Addiction

by Anonymous

My daughter is 17 and seems to have a shopping problem. It has gone on for several years but seems much worse now. What should I do?

By this query, it’s hard to know what the problem is, or if there actually is a problem at all.

Does your daughter go into debt? Does she have a job and spends her own money on this? Does she have friends with similar behavior? Many 17yr old girls spend lots of money on clothes and make-up etc. and if it’s her own money, it may be excessive, but it may be a phase. This behavior can be upsetting to a parent, but she may think that she needs these things to keep up with her friends.

If your daughter obsessively spends money, gets into debt and is uncontrollable, she’s escaping other emotional issues and she needs professional help.
