Emotional Eating

by Chris
(NY., USA)

My best friend can't stop spending her money on her obsession with food. She has gained 45 lbs in 3 months.

She now gives me ALL her credit cards, check books, & cash so she can't stop off at all these fast food places. She even lies to me and steals a check of her own from me to buy food.

Please help me. I don't know what to do.
Thank you for your time.

Your friend gave you her cash and cards etc. so this tells you that she wants to stop her obsessive eating, but it's not that simple.

Eating has become her coping strategy to avoid other psychological issues. What she's doing is emotional eating, however, if she keeps up this behavior it will also impact her physical health.

She needs professional help, and as her best friend, I advise you to tell her to find someone familiar with this issue.

She can also go to a 12-step program like Over-eaters Anonymous (OA), if she doesn't have the funds for private counseling. OA is free.

She'll be accepted and supported by the members. She feels guilty about her food issue, but she'll realized that she is not alone. There is help for her, but she has to reach out and get it.

All the best
