Marijuana and your lungs

by Anonymous
(Livonia, Mi)

My husband has smoked marijuana for 38 years. He has a horrible cough and in the mornings he coughs up green phlegm.

He does not smoke a whole joint -- just off a pipe maybe four times a day. Is smoking marijuana the reason for the cough and the phlegm?

-------------------------------------------------

Marijuana can be especially harmful to the lungs because users often inhale the unfiltered smoke and hold it in their lungs, causing irritation and can damage.

The smoke contains some of the same ingredients as tobacco, which can cause emphysema and cancer.

Only a physician can tell you the actual reason for the cough and the phlegm, but I suspect that marijuana is the cause.
