Marijuana & court

by Manon
(Montreal, Quebec)

I’m a first year university student from New York.

This summer I got caught stealing $8. worth of candy from a grocery store and went to county jail for 3 days. I was evaluated and told I needed to go through "minimal clinical treatment for marijuana".

I am now being told that if I do not hurry up and do this I have to go to jail in New York for 3 weeks. I don’t have ANY money. I have not smoked weed in 2 months and I’m sure I’m clear, but where can I go to get tested for free? Please help.

You’ve been told that you must go for clinical treatment for smoking. This is not the same as stopping to smoke and getting tested. You have to demonstrate to the court that you’ve gone through a program.

Find out if there is an outpatient drug program that you can attend. You need a letter of completion.

This may be available to you through a hospital or a residential treatment center. There may also be free drug counseling. Ask legal aid what's available to you.
