Non-Alcohol Beer & Gambling

by Mike
(Ireland)

I am a compulsive gambler. I’ve been out of treatment for 18 months now and I’m still clean from gambling and drinking.

Lately I have been taking some non-alcoholic beers. The addictive behaviors seem to be pouring back – anxiety, restlessness etc.

Any comment or helpful info for me along with the obvious one?

Yes. Drinking non-alcoholic beer is dangerous for you. You won’t get drunk, however, it’s a stepping-stone to what you really want – the real thing. Beer, alcoholic or not, is a trigger for you. You have to learn to completely change your behavior.

It may also be helpful to go to AA meetings and work the steps. The members are in a similar situation, you’ll develop relapse prevention strategies, acquire sober friends and have others to reach out to, when you’re in trouble. Look into it.
