What to eat to prevent cravings?

by Mandi
(South Africa)

My boyfriend is a recovering substance abuser and is clean for the past 6 months, but the cravings are back on and off.

How can I change his diet to assist him?

I don't know of any food that will prevent cravings, but if there are AA meetings in your area, I suggest that he goes. The members reach out to each other in times of need. It would also be helpful for him to get a sponsor and work the steps.

The important thing to know is that as difficult as it my seem, cravings pass. If he doesn't focus on the cravings and does something (call a friend, take a walk etc) to take his mind off them, it will be easier.

The longer he stays sober the easier it will get.

Good luck to both of you.
