Thank you so much for commenting. I was in tears reading your comments. To actually hear from a young man who has actually gone thru it gives me great hope. I pray daily that my son will get to the place you are now. He has so much going for him but continues to self destruct. I want nothing more than to make it better, yet I know only he can do that. I can no longer enable him. It gives me comfort hearing from you and knowing that maybe my husband and I ARE doing the right thing. Continue the good work young man. I'm praying for you!!!

Tough Love Works

I was in the same predicament as your son. My parents got professional advice and I hated them for it, but they kicked me out. They told me that the only way that they would have anything to do with me was if I got help. I didn't want to get help, but I was dependent on them and they were serious. I had no choice. I spent 6 months in residential treatment and I've been going to AA for the last 8 months.

This is a hard long road, but I have a job and want to go back to school and straighten out my life. My advice to you is not to feel sorry for him. He has a problem and only he can fix it. Give him an ultimatum.

As much as I fought it, if my parents wouldn't have done this, I never would have gotten help.
